Effect of Tip Rake Distribution on the Hydrodynamic Performance of Non-Planar Kappel Propeller

Taking advantage of end-plate effects to enhance propeller efficiency is engaging. This paper applied a 4-order B-spline curve design the rake distribution Kappel propellers using five types that each possesses different tip rakes, and one type has no constructed end-plate. The RANS method coupled with γ transition model was utilized analyze open-water performance six propellers, considering cavitating flow. It found conducive thrust capacity mostly improving propulsion by 2.5% at designed advance speed appropriate rake. increase in will magnify low-pressure value area on suction side blade surface, together phenomenon stretching vortex inhibition wake contraction, which are both beneficial elevation efficiency. However, sheet cavitation behavior aggravates as rises. Accordingly, reasonable range for favor suggested this paper, exhibiting promising potential energy savings application marine vehicles.
